Here are the details of our advanced lab protocol and testing that are included with the Core Assessment:

The A1c is essential, but more important is how to interpret it in the context of lifestyle approaches. E4 Diabetes Solutions has developed a unique set of 10 risk levels. Find out what is optimal, what are the risks, and what you can do to reduce them.

Lab values measured include hsCRP (high sensitivity Cardiac Reactive Protein), Total Cholesterol, HDL, LDL (calculated), and Triglycerides. These are used to calculate advanced heart risk ratios and to produce a detailed report on your cardiovascular risk.

Lab values measured include the hsCRP, and combined with the A1c, are used to calculate your inflammation profile and its impact on cardiac risk.

Lab values measured are ALT and AST. Fatty liver disease and diabetes are correlated, according to the Mayo Clinic. At least half of people with type 2 diabetes have fatty liver disease, and these values help determine your liver health.

Lab values measured are creatinine plus protein in the urine, and a complete GFR is calculated. Kidney disease is a very common side effect of diabetes. About 25% of people with type 2 diabetes have advanced kidney disease, and diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure in the United States. There are five stages of kidney disease and your doctor typically doesn’t warn you until you are at stage 3. GFR is many times not reported when it is above 60%. Did you know that when most doctors test the thyroid, they don’t really test the thyroid? The first test is the TSH. However, this is actually NOT a test of the thyroid. We measure TSH plus Free T3 and Free T4, which indicate what is actually being produced in the body. Based on this information, we will give you a visual indication of where you stand relative to optimal. You need all three tests. Any one of them alone is NOT enough.
